Waiting

I don’t like to wait. I want things to happen in a split second…But this time I am waiting patiently for my books to get life on a book shelf. My brother had told me, “You must have your first book published by February.” I too wanted that but I wanted to be proud of my first book…I wanted to have a great launch so I decided to wait…wait patiently. But it was not easy to wait- I went into depression and I hogged on Panipuries, put on weight, stopped going to gym and joined yoga class, shopped necessary, unnecessary almost everything at FabIndia, visited beauty parlour twice in a week, watched every movie at INOX… During this exciting depressing journey of “waiting” I talked only about books with my authors and designers, editors. They kept on assuring me that we are going reach our destination…They continuously worked and I continuously waited for them to tell me-It is done.

Yes, now we are ready (almost ready) with our four books to be launched in December.
So far I have worked for others this time I am doing something for myself, doing something that I enjoy most- giving life to myself- My Books.

Making of Maitreya

A free spirited person like me has never thought of being tied down with something as serious as book making…Yeah, not even wanted to be tied down in a married life but I wanted to become a mom so…same way I got into publishing because I wanted to continue my love affair with books. I enjoy books as much as I enjoy being a mom…

Maitreya happened to me in just two days. I had no idea what I am going to do and how I am going to do…
The very first person who came in support of Maitreya was Vijai Singh Katiyar, followed by Anil Sinha, Deepak, Sekhar and Shilpa- all from NID. They all said, “I am with you.” And that is all I wanted…
Then came Theosophical Society, and my dream of working with Annie Besant got fullfilled…
Vijaybhai of Sri Aurobindo Society trusted me and my love for books completely. One advise he gave me was, “Remain what you are…” He made me a part of Sri Aurobindo Society and he became a part of Maitreya.

So far Maitreya had only one person, the publisher that is me. The second person who joined Maitreya was my husband with, “Don’t worry about money, just go ahead…”
He also goes through all the manuscripts.
Achal Narayan, who has worked with British High Commission as an executive editor agreed to be part a of Maitreya.
Peter and Ravi are designers – again from NID. Both very energetic and high spirited.
Maitreya has 23 distributors to take care of marketing for books…

Story of Books

Story of books
My first introduction to Identity happened when my dad told me what symbolized the State Bank of India’s logo and many years later when Kiran Bir Sethi, the beautiful wife of Geet Sethi told me that HMT watches logo was designed by her dad.

Maybe that was the first time the idea of doing a book on designing logos was born.

I believe in dreams and I keep my dreams alive – Maitreya’s first book is Ideating Identity by Prof. Anil Sinha of National Institute of Design. The Book is about the thought process of an idea…It’s a must –read book not only for designers and design students, but for everyone who wants to understand the thought process…

Maitreya’s second book is –Your Thought Power by Annie Besant.
I have lived in the neighborhood of the Theosophical Society, Chennai. I was fascinated by the green, beautiful, campus of the Theosophical Society and that attracted me to get to know more about the Society, I made friends at the society and I came to know about the mystics - like Annie Besant, Charles Leadbeater and Jiddu Krishnamurti…
Doing a book by Annie Besant is my way of getting connected to her.
This book has worked for me- It will work for you too. Read it.

Mircea Eliade has written a book for his lover and dedicated it to her….Salman Rusdie wrote a Haroon and Other Sea Stories for his son and gifted it to him on his birthday…How fascinating to have a book written for oneself !

An Autobiography of a Failure- is a story of every son, written for his mom.
Written in simple language with 100% honesty and love, it will touch your heart.
An Autobiography of a Failure is written by Ravikiran, a student of National Institute of Design- so after various books from authors who studied at the IIMs and the IITs, this is the first book from an NIDan. The Book is designed by another NIDan, Peter.
Do look for this book.

Why blog and not a web-site

I was trying to get my web site done. It started with a visit of a marketing person followed by 3 visits by 2 designers. The first design they gave me, looked like a web pg of a travel company, 2nd design made me a Best on line Book Store...What do i do?
Finally i gave the layout to the designer, and asked him to keep tinted blue as the back ground colour - he didn't know what is tinted blue. What do i do?
The web site designer has sent me a price quote for the designing of my site- 65000rs.
What do i do?
